When children reach about 12-24 months, they begin developing the eating habits that will shape the rest of their lives. Here are a few simple ways to help:
- Encourage fruits and vegetables as snacks and at every meal, lean meats, and don't forget about whole grains!
- Encourage children to eat slowly. We are more sensitive to how full we are when we eat slower.
- Be a role model!
The best way to encourage healthy eating habits is eat well yourself. Kids will follow the lead of the adults they see everyday. By eating fruits and vegetables and not overindulging in the less nutritious foods, you'll be sending the right message.
